Who We Are
The Yarn Tree, was born, just before the start of South Africans realizing that our yarns were actually really world class and we had more on our doorstep than we previously dreamed. We started in 1 room, with very sad looking shelves and have blossomed into what we are today.
The Yarn Tree however has never and will never be about just the yarns and all the notions, but about forging friendships and people.
Irene and Adrienne have been friends since their children were in Grade 1, and so the 2 of them know each other’s strengths and foibles and have formed a great team. Mel came to the party a bit later, her daughter, Cass being the same age as Adrienne and Irene’s boys, and has added valuable strength to the team.
Adrienne is wife to a very patient and loving husband Alan, and a mom to 2 grown up boys, Wes and Mitch. She is also a besotted mother to Axl and Rose, the 2 rescues, and the naughtiest parrot in the world, Sultan. Even though we are now in the new premises, Axl and Rose continue to be frequent visitors. She learnt crochet From her grandmother at about the age of 9, and The Yarn Tree is defiantly her happy place.
Irene is a mom to 3 grown children and she and her husband Philip, have just become doting grandparents to little Oliver. Irene can never sit still, except when she has yarn in her hands, and is the cement behind the successful running of the Yarn Tree.
Although Mel joined the party a bit later, she has brought another aspect to the studio. Mel is determined to try every new aspect that she can in the crochet world. She and her husband JR are parents to 2 grown up kids and an adorable lab, Leah.
